2007 Ranger of the Year
Congratulations To The 2007
Ranger Of The Year
April Welch
East Tennessee Regional
Interpretive Specialist

Nomination Letter:
I would like to nominate Ranger April Welch
for Ranger of the Year for 2007. Ranger Welch has
represented the Department and the Tennessee Park Rangers
Association well over this last year. Ranger Welch has
worked diligently on the Board of the Ranger Association as
the Chairman, and under her leadership and guidance the
Board has been able to accomplish much.
The Tennessee Park Rangers Association has
received its 501c6 status, and has been recognized as an
official Professional Non Profit Organization. She has
represented the Board with this current administration, and
helped to address and resolve long-term issues associated
with equality in retirement benefits associated with state
housing. She has worked on and implemented the New
Volunteer Physical Fitness initiative for Park Rangers and
Managers. She worked with the Board to improve
communications with its members by the development of the
Tennessee Park Ranger Association Web site, and through the
use of State email. She continually strives to promote
the Professional development of the uniform staff, by
meeting with the administration to ensure that training
opportunities within the department and without are
available for all staff. Ranger Welch has been able to
do all this while still performing her duties as a Ranger
with in the department.
Ranger Welch has worked as a Ranger at Long
Hunter State Park, providing interpretive programs for the
visitors of that park and the local school groups. She
has represented the Department at the State Parks Baseball
Night Out promotions. Assisted with Seasonal
Interpretive Ranger Trainings and In-Services. She is
working on a grant proposal to provide greater opportunities
for the youth in our communities to get back to nature.
As a Ranger she has worked on several Resource Management
Projects at Long Hunter State Park to ensure that the
natural and cultural resources of Long Hunter State Park are
preserved and protected for future generations.
I feel that Ranger Welch has worn the uniform
of a Tennessee Park Ranger with pride, and has always
strived to be professional in her duties as a Ranger and as
a Board member of the Tennessee Park Rangers Association.
She has embodied the mission of Tennessee State Parks and
the Tennessee Park Rangers Association in her work ethic and
desire to be the best that she can be.
