Tennessee Park Rangers Association Training Scholarship
The Tennessee State Park Rangers
Association believes that promoting and fostering job related
training is tantamount to helping develop the highly skilled
Park Rangers of the future. As such, TPRA helps cultivate
tomorrow's leaders with a scholarship
program
that encourage and support appropriate educational opportunities
and allow recipients to cultivate relationships with today's
leaders in the field.
Training Scholarships
Purpose of Program?
To provide financial support to Tennessee State Park Rangers, Managers, and Interpretive specialists for advancement of their resource management, law enforcement, medical, search & rescue, and interpretive knowledge, skills, and professional leadership.
Who is eligible?
Full Time Tennessee State Park
Rangers, Managers, and Interpretive specialists who are members
of the Tennessee State Park Rangers Association. Anyone
receiving a scholarship must have worked a Bicycle Ride Across
Tennessee prior to applying or be willing to work two
B.R.A.T. after receiving the scholarship.
***Eligibility is currently being considered for anyone who
has worked a TPRA event (not limited to the BRAT). Let your
representatives know if you agree or disagree with this course
of action.***
Types of supported activities:
Training classes, workshops, and conferences in the fields of Resource management, Law enforcement, Search & Rescue, Medical, Interpretive, and Management.
Amount of support:
The TPRA Scholarship Committee will review each application and decide how much support they can offer for each individual scholarship. There is no longer a cap on the amount of support offered, however, the TPRA will have to evaluate the amount of money in the scholarship account at the time the application is submitted before making its offer of support.
Total support given to Rangers to current date: $7,547.30
Selection Criteria:
-A clear and compelling statement
of career goals related to our profession.
-Degree that the scholarship will help the person achieve their
career goals.
-Extent of other contributing financial support or in-kind
contributions from other sources (e.g., university, personal,
third party organizations).
-Degree that the requested financial support is appropriate and
reasonable.
Expectations:
Recipient will be expected to attend and participate in the training, meeting, or conference that was awarded and a ceremony held during in-service that year.
Scholarship Selection Criteria:
The number of scholarships that may
be awarded will be based on the scholarship account balance. The
scholarship committee will keep detailed records of amount of
funds available in the account and the amount of scholarships
awarded.
The scholarship committee will rank the training scholarships by
total score. Those applicants with higher scores will have a
greater chance of receiving scholarship funds. The committee
will then choose potential recipients by vote of the scholarship
committee and send that recommendation to the TPRA board for
final award of the scholarships. The scholarship committee will
provide the TPRA board of directors the name of the recommended
recipient and the training they are requested funds for.
